4 Major Reasons for a Suspended License.

When you commit a traffic violation, you will: a) be given a ticket by the police officer who flags you down or b) receive a ticket in the mail if a red light or speed camera has clicked you.

The most common violations are speeding, running red lights, stop signs, and illegal turns. These are relatively minor violations, but you will still need to pay the fine, and get points on your record. However, some traffic violations are categorized as ‘criminal’ and can result in a suspended license in Florida.

  • 1. DUI – If you are convicted for driving under the influence of alcohol or any drug (even prescription), leaving you with impaired ability, you will have to pay hefty fines and your license is suspended for 180 days to 1 year, depending on the situation.

  • 2. Refusing a breathalyzer/ blood/urine test – When you get your driving license, it is understood that you will subject yourself to such tests when required by the authorities. Refusing to undergo the tests will result in license suspension.

  • 3. Driving without a license or a suspended license – this is a serious offense, any will result in further suspension and possible jail time.

  • 4. Driving without Insurance – It is mandatory that your vehicle is properly insured, and that you carry it with you. If you don’t do so if you are pulled over for say speeding, and the officer finds this out, your license will be suspended.

Apart from these reasons, if you accumulate 12 points in one year, your license will be suspended for 30 days; if you get 18 points in 18 months, the suspension is for 3 months; and if you get 24 points in 3 years, then you will be without a license for a whole year.

But don’t get panicky thinking about a suspension! If you have been ticketed for a traffic violation, it doesn’t mean you’re convicted. You have a choice – fight your ticket! Do NOT pay up immediately. Respond by the date specified and mention that you are fighting the ticket.

An experienced speeding ticket lawyer will represent you in court and help get your charges dismissed or reduced, saving you hundreds of dollars, embarrassment, and inconvenience.

Call the Ticket Clinic now to have a lawyer fight your ticket in court!
