Of all the speeding tickets issued in Florida, nearly half of them are written in the 8 counties listed in the chart. Miami leads the pack with over 50,000, but Duval comes in a close second followed by Palm Beach and Broward in the 40,000 range. While COVID impacted everywhere, speeding tickets dropped most dramatically in Broward County. In our last report three years ago, Broward County led the state in speeding tickets issued. The county has fallen to 5th.

Jacksonville / Duval County Is Florida’s New Speeding Ticket “Hotspot”

In our first report in 2017, we identifed Duval County as a hotspot and the area countinues to trend. Duval County was the only major county are that actually saw growth in speeding tickets. 24% more speeding tickets were written post-COVID in 2020 (49,700) than in 2019 (40,178.) Miami ranks first in the speeding ticket category with (50,093) but has more than twice the population. This makes Jacksonville / Duval County Florida’s new speeding ticket hotspot.

Another Speeding Ticket “Hotspot” – The Florida Keys

The Flordia Keys are known for scenic drives but they should also be known for speeding tickets. Law Enforcement agencies in from Key Largo to Key West wrote a respectable 8,331 speeding tickets. The area has very low speed limits and speed traps all over. Many vacationers bring home an extra souvenir from the keys – a speeding ticket.

“Hot Spots” For Moving Violations

With 2.7 million people, it’s not surprising that Miami-Dade takes the first spot when it comes to moving violations. In fact, nearly twice as many moving violations were issued in Miami than Orange, the county with the second highest amount of citations. Moving violations include speeding tickets, red light violations, ran stop signs, careless driving, improper passing, following too close and many others.

The Redlight Camera Violation Effect

A major contributor to moving violation stats in several counties including Miami, Broward and Orange are Red Light Cameras. In Miami alone, over 60,000 of these tickets were issued.

Careless Driving Is The #3 Moving Violation

Often issued as a result of a traffic accident, it’s no surprise that Careless Driving tickets are the third most common moving violation. In the state of Florida, 140,000 were issued in 2020. A sizable chunk (36,000) came from Miami-Dade law enforcement agencies.
